Each t-shirt is a piece of art
Devon Almarinez is not your typical designer. "My love is for the art, but my passion is in the fashion!" Devon Almarinez – A self taught abstract graphic artist from the age of 15 who worked his way through the streets of the Bay Area rap scene to follow his own path working in LA’s music industry.
Each t-shirt is a piece of art that has many abstract intricate details. When I look at a t-shirt, I see a canvas. Once an element is in place, I don’t change it. It’s an art. Designs can take a day or weeks to be completed. It is not finished until I feel like it is. Most people like the tees at first glance because it’s noisy and full of eye candy. But, once they look up close, they see many things they couldn’t see from afar. That’s when they start to respect it as an art piece instead of a design.
Not only does that separate him from many other clothing lines out there, but his bottom signature bar puts him far away from everyone. The Heroics bottom signature is located above the bottom seam of every Heroics t-shirt with a top graphic. The Heroics bottom bar is a design that matches the theme and balances out the top design in place. If you somehow mistake the intricate main design for anything else, you will know it is a Heroics t-shirt by seeing the bottom signature.
Heroics is a mid-high designer brand that represents the people. It was created to show each individuals experiences through artistic pieces. Many designs have over a hundred elements with intricate detail. This artwork has been seen by millions as it moves through the streets of San Francisco and elsewhere. This is because rather than oil on canvas, Almarinez’s paint is digital.
His career began at age fifteen when he began seriously designing. From there, he worked for major Bay Area production companies and served as chief designer for the Bay Area’s largest hip hop radio station. Since then, his work has been seen in US Weekly, Star Magazine, All Star Hip-hop, XXL, Entertainment Tonight, E News, BET, MTV, Good Morning America, Access Hollywood and a myriad of national media outlets.
Yet, it is an empire built upon handshakes and connections which is more of a personal route almost lost in today’s business world. When speaking of YaBoy, a prominent Bay born rapper whom Almarinez designs for, Almarinez begins by pointing out, "I met him in the streets one night in San Francisco." While Almarinez’s business strategy and artistic focus are unconventional, it’s hard to argue with the results. Celeb’s who have been seen wearing the Heroics brand are Aaron Carter, Kevin Federline, Lupe Fiasco, Snoop Dogg, The Game & Black Wall Street, Fizz & Boog, Pete Pablo and many more.
Almarinez was born June 15, 1984 in the Bay Area. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco with a BA in visual arts and an emphasis in graphic design.
