Butler Institute paid US$1.6 million for Rockwell painting
The Butler Institute of American Art has paid US$1.6 million for a Norman Rockwell painting, "Lincoln the Railsplitter". This will be the first Rockwell piece for the Institute. The painting was bought November 30 in a sale at Christie´s New York from Texas owner H. Ross Perot.

Damien Hirst Commissioned By New York´s Lever House
UK controversial artist, Damien Hirst, is working on a commission for Lever House in Manhattan that will cost about US$10 million dollars. The installations may include the artist´s famous works such as sheep in formaldehyde, shark and medicine cabinets. The show will open during the fall.

Brooke Astor´s Son Owes Taxes From US$10 Million Art Sale
New York prosecutors are investigating Anthony Marshall, son of Brooke Astor, because of taxes owed on his sale of a US$10 million painting on behalf of his mother. The painting was bought for US$5 million in February 2002 and Marshall received a US$2 million commission.

Sony Pictures Classics bought the rights to the art world documentary "My Kid Could Paint That" for US$1.85 million dollars at the Sundance 07. The documentary is about a child whose abstract art has made over US$300,000 dollars.

The National Art Center in Tokyo, Japan, opened its doors last Sunday, being the largest exhibition space in all Japan (with a space of 14,000 sq. meters) and the first to be created in the last 30 years. The Art Center will not have a permanent collection of its own.

The first group to complete the eight-day PrisonSMART (Prison Stress Management and Rehabilitation Training) program consisted of 57 male and female prisoners.

Recovered Goya Painting Reinstalled
The Toledo Museum of Art is exhibiting again in Gallery 28A, the Francisco de Goya painting "Children with a Cart" (1778). The painting was stolen in November 2006, but recovered by the FBI and returned to the Toledo Museum of Art few days ago.

Asia has become a great market for every product or service. Art couldn´t be the exception. The art market in Asia has grown in big proportions and it is not planning to stop. Many art companies are opening offices to reach this rich and cultured target. Bonhams auction house is the latest to do so. With a new office in Hong Kong, they are planning to compete directly with their two other famous rivals: Sotheby´s and Christie´s. They will start their agenda with an important event on May 26.

The mover was identified as Nahum Kohen(38) and was hired to take a dead man´s belongings from the Upper East Side apartment to a warehouse.

A painting by Canadian landscape painter J.W. Beatty was stolen from a private office at the Ontario College of Art and Design located in downtown Toronto. The art work, titled "Winter Sunshine, Bellefountain (Cabin at River´s Edge in Winter)" is worth US25,000 and has a signature of the artist on the bottom left corner.

Harvard gets political with Dissent! exhibition
Everyone remembers the 2004 election when artist Richard Serra chose one image of the Iraqi war to let us know his opinion of the Bush administration: a hooded prisoner from Abu Ghraib standing with his arms spread wide. Now, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University is bringing back a new exhibit of the controversial black-and-white images.
