Lights On Tampa Biennial Scheduled For Upcoming Super Bowl
Lights On Tampa returns as the esthetically beautiful and engaging public art project from January 10 thru Super Bowl XLIII (Tampa is host city) on February 1. The biennial is free, and is one of the most ambitious public art projects in the region. Lights On Tampa will transform the city’s urban spaces with installations that embellish downtown's public realm with visual innovation created by nationally and internationally renowned artists.

The Prince Of Wales Visits New Brewery Arts
On Tuesday 23rd December HRH The Prince of Wales visited New Brewery Arts in Cirencester to see many of the centre’s eighteen resident makers at work and to have a look around the recently refurbished centre. New Brewery Arts was launched in April this year following a major £2.8M redevelopment and The Prince of Wales’ visit will highlight how many activities take place at the centre and how much has happened during the first year.

MoMA Receives Grant From The Leon Levy Foundation
The Museum of Modern Art has received a two-year grant from The Leon Levy Foundation, which will allow for the organizing and processing of the institutional records of P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, the Museum’s affiliate in Long Island City, Queens, as well as support MoMA's efforts to begin an oral history of P.S. 1. Recognizing P.S.1’s primary role in the unfolding of the art of our time, the Museum will survey, preserve, organize, and describe these records to make them available for scholarly research and public access. Under this project, the Museum will also conduct an initial selection of oral histories of key figures closely associated with P.S.1 and its 32-year history.

MET Celebrates The Holidays By Opening On "Holiday Monday" Dec 29
The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be open to the public on Monday, December 29 (the Monday between Christmas and New Year's Day), as part of the Museum's popular "Holiday Mondays" program. The Museum will open the doors of its main building this winter and spring on three additional major Monday holidays: January 19 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), February 16 (Presidents' Day), and May 25 (Memorial Day).

Tony Bennett Donates Painting To The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery
The Smithsonian Institution announced that Tony Bennett is donating his watercolor painting of Duke Ellington to the National Portrait Gallery. The painting will be presented at the museum in April 2009 to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Ellington’s birth.

The J. Paul Getty Museum announced the acquisition of two new works: "Landscape with the Temptation of Saint Anthony" (1617) by 17th-century Flemish landscape and still-life painter Roelandt Savery (1576–1639) and a brown wash and graphite drawing entitled "Sphinx" (c. 1898–1900) by renowned 19th-century French sculptor and draftsman Auguste Rodin (1840–1917).

Winning Artists Announced For Olympic Park Bridges And Underpasses
The first arts commission launched by the ODA in July identified a series of new bridges and underpasses to be constructed in the Olympic Park for artists to develop integrated artwork proposals that both celebrated and/or commemorated London 2012. This first commission is part of the overall masterplan to create a new public park that will be enjoyed by future generations and follows the wider Olympic Park plans unveiled by the ODA last month that will combine centuries of British park design with ground-breaking green technology to create a "new Hyde Park for east London".

The seventh edition of Art Basel Miami Beach closed on Sunday, December 7, 2008. More than 250 galleries from 33 countries exhibited works by over 2,000 artists. With a program of special exhibitions, performances, panel discussions, visits to private collections, and crossover events featuring film, music, and architecture, the show attracted more than 40,000 visitors and 1,800 journalists from all over the globe. Many thousands of guests attended the surrounding cultural exhibitions and events, while renowned artists and leading artworld personalities participated in the programs of Art Basel Miami Beach.

South Florida Arts Projects Get $8 Million Boost
Thirty-one ideas to help transform the South Florida arts scene were awarded $8 million from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The first-year winners of the Knight Arts Partnership include sculptors, musicians, prominent institutions and recently formed galleries — all of whom will raise the standards for arts in South Florida and bring together the region’s diverse population through their work.

Mark Leckey Wins The Turner Prize 2008
The Turner Prize 2008 has been awarded to Mark Leckey, it was announced at Tate Britain. The £25,000 prize was presented by Nick Cave. This year’s prize fund is £40,000 with £25,000 going to the winner and £5,000 each for the other shortlisted artists. The event was broadcast live on Channel 4 News.

Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum, has announced the appointment of David van der Leer as the Guggenheim’s new Assistant Curator of Architecture and Design.
