Santiago Calatrava At The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute In New York
Santiago Calatrava, the world-renowned architect who has designed some of the most beautiful structures of our time, will be the subject of a new exhibition, "Santiago Calatrava: World Trade Center Transportation Hub", at New York City’s Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, a private non-profit Spanish cultural center, from May 8, 2009.

Iconic Hepworth Sculpture Returns Home
A major sculpture by Dame Barbara Hepworth, one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, was unveiled by the artist's granddaughter following its return home to Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Leading independent charity The Art Fund gave £345,000 to Chesterfield Borough Council to help buy "Curved Reclining Form (Rosewall)", 1960-62, so that the sculpture could be returned to the town which had been its home for over 40 years.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation will present its inaugural Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Honors to three leaders in the architecture and related arts fields at a benefit dinner on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. The event coincides with the "Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward" exhibition on view at the Guggenheim from May 15, 2009 to August 23, 2009, which also celebrates the Guggenheim’s 50th Anniversary and the legacy of the iconic architect’s work and ideas.

Salatino Named Director Of Bowdoin College Museum Of Art
Kevin Salatino has been named director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. Salatino has served as Head of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) since 2000, following nine years as Curator of Graphic Arts at the Getty Research Institute. At Bowdoin, Salatino will oversee the more than 14,000 items in the museum's collections and manage its staff, programs and budget.

Roxy Paine Creates Monumental Sculpture for MET Roof Garden
Conceptual artist Roxy Paine (American, b. 1966) has created a site-specific installation for the 2009 season of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden, the most dramatic outdoor space for sculpture in New York City. Roxy Paine on the Roof: Maelstrom features a 130-foot-long by 45-foot-wide stainless-steel sculpture, "Maelstrom" (2009), that encompasses the nearly 8,000-square-foot Roof Garden, and is the largest sculpture to have been installed on the roof of the Metropolitan.

IU Fine Arts Professor Confirmed As Guggenheim Fellow
Indiana University Associate Professor Osamu James Nakagawa was confirmed as a Guggenheim Fellow last week. Fellows were announced Tuesday, April 7. This marks the 85th year for the annual competition, established to honor "stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment" to add to the "educational, literary, artistic and scientific power of this country, and also to provide for the cause of better international understanding," according to the organization's mission statement.
