Smithsonian Museums Have Gone Mobile
Until recently, visitors to Smithsonian museums on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., faced an unexpected challenge: they could not use their cell phones unless they were near a window or door. The solid construction of the Smithsonian’s historic buildings made it nearly impossible for cell phone signals to penetrate the walls. Fresh from his successful solo Art Basel Miami Beach 2009 debut and exhibit, The Manifestation of Cross-Over Art, local pop artist and urban impressionist Miguel Paredes has been asked to create a piece of artwork for Lincoln Road’s longstanding ArtCenter/South Florida. Statement By The MET On Accident Involving Picasso's The Actor
An important painting by Pablo Picasso was accidentally damaged in the galleries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Friday afternoon, January 22. A visitor attending a class lost her balance, falling onto Picasso's "The Actor", a large, Rose-period painting that was painted in winter 1904-1905. The accident resulted in an irregular vertical tear of about six inches in length in the lower right-hand corner.(view more...)

Fiona Banner has been invited to create the next installation for the Tate Britain Duveens Commission 2010, supported by Sotheby’s. Her new work, created especially for the neoclassical Duveen galleries at the heart of Tate Britain, will be unveiled on 28 June 2010 and will be on display until 3 January 2011. Getty Museum Director Michael Brand Steps Down
James N. Wood, president and CEO of the J. Paul Getty Trust, announced that Dr. Michael Brand has elected to step down as director of the J. Paul Getty Museum at the end of January. He will be available to serve as a consultant through the end of the summer. Brand joined the Getty in December 2005 with a five-year contract. Wood said that David Bomford, associate director for collections at the Museum, will serve as interim director of the Museum until Brand’s successor is named.(view more...)
