On September 5, 2008 the School of the Art Institute of Chicago will inaugurate the largest contemporary art gallery space in the Chicago Loop, announced SAIC President Tony Jones. Yosemite Valley Landscape Commemorated On Postage
The U.S. Postal Service dedicated the Valley of the Yosemite commemorative 42-cent first class stamp at the American Philatelic Stamp Show in Hartford, CT last week. The stamp image is based onan 1864 oil-on-paperboard painting by landscape artist Albert Bierstadt. The original painting belongs to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The Albert Bierstadt: Valley of the Yosemite stamp, as the eighth issuance in the American Treasures series, is available nationwide.

On September 8, Christie’s will launch its first ever sale dedicated exclusively to works by international contemporary designers. Offering collectors works fresh to the market by some of the most important designers living and working today, the sale will include pieces by Marc Newson, Forrest Myers, Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad, Maarten Baas, Shiro Kuramata, Ettore Sottsass and Harush Shlomo. With estimates ranging from $6,000 to $300,000, the tightly edited auction of 30 lots is expected to total $1.2-1.7 million.

U Of U Receives $12M From Foundation for New Arts Complex
The University of Utah announced the Sorenson Legacy Foundation has pledged $12 million to the university for the construction of an interdisciplinary arts and education complex at its Salt Lake City campus. It is the largest donation in support of fine arts or arts and education in university history.

MET Loans Sculptures To The University Of Texas For Public Art Project
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is lending 28 mid- to late -twentieth-century sculptures to The University of Texas at Austin to be installed across campus as part of the university's Landmarks public art program. The first group will be installed in September 2008, the second in January 2009. The sculptures are on long-term loan from the Met.
