McNay Art Museum Meets US$50.8 Million Capital Campaign Goal
Tom C. Frost, chairman of the McNay Board of Trustees and chairman of the museum’s capital campaign, announced that the museum successfully reached their goal of raising $50.8 million to renovate the McNay residence, increase the museum’s endowment, and build the 45,000 square foot Jane and Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions, set to open during a weekend of public festivities, June 7th and 8th.

AXA Art Insurance Offers $25,000 Reward For Missing Picasso Artworks
AXA Art Insurance announced a $25,000 reward for credible information leading to the location, recovery and return of two Picasso prints and conviction of the responsible parties. "Jacqueline Lisant" and "Le Repas Frugel" were burglarized from the Biba St. Croix art gallery in Palm Beach at 3:30am on May 22nd, 2008. Burglars gained access by entering the back of the insured’s gallery and breaking though a door that leads to a sculpture garden. The insured was notified of a burglary in progress when the alarm and motion sensors went off.

"La Batalla De Trevino" On Public View At Sotheby's New York
From May 24 through 29, the most important painting to be offered at auction by Puerto Rico’s preeminent 19th-century painter, Francisco Oller y Cestero, will be on view at Sotheby’s New York, alongside the exhibition for the New York sale of Latin American Art, which will take place on May 29 & 30. This newly discovered work, whose very existence was unknown until recent years, has been in the same private family collection in Spain for over 100 years. This painting has never been exhibited publicly or published and represents a major discovery and contribution to the scholarship on this outstanding artist. "La Batalla de Treviño" will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s London in The Spanish Sale on November 12, 2008 (est. £340,000 – 380,000).

Hunting PLC announced that "I Hope I’m Dreaming" by Wendy Wagner is the winner of the $50,000 Hunting Art Prize for 2008. The piece was selected from over 100 final juried participants in the 28th annual award program, which is sponsored by the oil services company and is among the most generous in the country. The announcement came during an evening awards gala on Saturday, May 3, at the Decorative Center of Houston.
