Getty Foundation Announces US$2.8M To Launch L.A. Arts
The Getty Foundation announced a series of 15 grants totaling nearly $2.8 million that will launch an unprecedented series of concurrent exhibitions at museums throughout Southern California highlighting the post-World War II Los Angeles art scene. Exhibitions will begin in 2011 as part of the initiative Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980.

In its seventh year, ART20 is the premier show in New York’s fall art season. Fine art spanning from 1900 to contemporary, including examples of Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Hard Edge and Social Realism, will comprise the diverse selection of works on display and for sale. Sixty exhibitors from the US and Europe, both long established dealers and young galleries, make up a select atmosphere where visitors can experience 20th century greats and fresh new works of sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, video and other media.

Asian Contemporary Art Fair New York 2008
One of the most important exhibitions of contemporary Asian art, the 2nd annual Asian Contemporary Art Fair New York (ACAF NY), will be held from November 7-10, 2008, at Pier 92, 52nd Street and 12th Avenue, in New York City. More than 60 international galleries and non-profit organizations will show a wide range of contemporary work by artists from countries including China, Japan, Korea, India, Bangladesh, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. Much of the work, including paintings, sculpture, photography, works on paper, video and installations, will be on view for the first time in the U.S.

Mayor Bloomberg Announced Waterfalls Had A US$69M Impact On NYC
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and First Deputy Mayor Deputy Patricia E. Harris announced that The New York City Waterfalls had an estimated economic impact of $69 million, exceeding the initial estimate of $55 million. The Waterfalls, a major work of public art by artist Olafur Eliasson, commissioned by Public Art Fund and presented in collaboration with the City, contributed $15.5 million in direct spending on the exhibition's total presentation, including building materials, construction, operation, disassembly, and promotional and educational materials; an estimated $26.3 million in incremental visitor spending; and an estimated $26.8 million in indirect spending from these expenditures.

IMA To Establish Art Conservation Science Laboratory
The Indianapolis Museum of Art has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art conservation science laboratory to complement its existing expertise in the care and treatment of the works of art in its collection. Through the addition of this laboratory, the IMA aims to create an internationally recognized conservation center, which will enhance the IMA’s capability to conduct art historical research through science technologies. The laboratory also will augment the IMA’s potential as a resource for training and professional development, and it will help the IMA to foster partnerships with universities and corporations involved in central Indiana’s growing role as a hub of the life sciences industry.

Art Fund Supports National Portrait Gallery Appeal For Quinn's 'Blood Head'
The Art Fund has kick-started an appeal by The National Portrait Gallery to raise funds for the acquisition of "Self", a self-portrait cast of artist Marc Quinn’s head made in 2006 from his own blood and then frozen. The Art Fund has given a grant of £100,000 towards the purchase; the Gallery has until December 31 in which to raise a total amount of £350,000.
