Louisville Mayor Announces Plans To Create More Public Art
The art group Creative Time -- which has developed innovative public art in New York City for the last three decades, including the Tribute in Light that shines every Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center site -- has been hired by Louisville Metro Government to develop a plan for creating more public art in the city.

Louise Lippincott and Maureen Rolla Named Acting Co-Directors Of CMA
Carnegie Museum of Art Chief Curator and Curator of Fine Arts Louise Lippincott and Deputy Director Maureen Rolla have been appointed acting co-directors of Carnegie Museum of Art, effective November 3, 2008. The pair will fill the leadership role after the departure of Richard Armstrong, The Henry J. Heinz II Director for Carnegie Museum of Art, who was recently named director for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Armstrong, who in June announced he would step down from his post by the end of 2008, will assume his position at the Guggenheim on November 4, 2008. He will be available at Carnegie Museum of Art on a part-time basis through December 4 to provide guidance during the transition.

The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park Opening September 2009
The Indianapolis Museum of Art broke ground on 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park. Located on 100 acres of untamed woodlands, wetlands, a lake, and meadows adjacent to the Museum, the Art & Nature Park will be one of the largest museum art parks in the country and the only one to feature the ongoing commission of site-specific artworks. It will open September 27, 2009 with a visitor center, numerous trails, and eight site-specific inaugural works commissioned from emerging and midcareer artists.

VSA And Volkswagen Group Of America Debut "Green Light" Exhibition
VSA arts and Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., present "Green Light," an art exhibition by 15 emerging artists with disabilities that debuts at the Smithsonian Institution’s S. Dillon Ripley Center from Sept. 17 to Jan. 4. The theme challenged artists ages 16 – 25 to consider the motivations behind their work and the infinite possibilities that creativity provides.

Governor O'Malley Announces Public Art Grants
Governor Martin O’Malley announced that in recognition of the newly created Maryland Public Art Commission, $22,970 in matching grants has been awarded to five county arts councils to commission public art. Awarded by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, the awards will be used to support public art projects in Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Howard, Frederick and Queen Anne’s counties. "Art has the power to build communities, enhance our natural and man-made landscapes and elevate the role of aesthetic excellence in our daily lives," said Governor O’Malley. "When artists and citizens collaborate, the results transform communities in ways both subtle and strong, but always significant."

U.S. To Celebrate 225 Years Since End Of Revolutionary War
September 3, 2008 marks the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Paris, which formally ended the American Revolutionary War and secured British recognition of American Independence. The American Revolution Center has partnered with The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts to mount a month-long exhibition in celebration of this important and often forgotten period of American history.
