Sotheby’s is delighted to announce the sale in Paris on May 20, 2008 of an exceptional collection of nine manuscripts by the French writer André Breton. The group, which is being sold by the family of Breton’s first wife, Simone Collinet, has until now never come to the market.

NPG Hosts UK Premiere Of Anna May Wong Documentary
As part of this year's Chinese New Year celebrations and the CHINA NOW festival, the National Portrait Gallery will be hosting the UK premiere of the first documentary film about the pioneering Asian American film star, Anna May Wong. Directed by Elaine Mae Woo, the film profiles a rare talent who defied racist attitudes in 1920s Hollywood to become an international success feted in Europe and America.

High Commissions Two Iconic Dutch Designs For Atlanta
The High Museum of Art has commissioned two major pieces by Dutch artists Jurgen Bey and Tejo Remy to be completed and installed during the spring of 2008. Both artists are associated with the Amsterdam-based Droog Collective, a group that has creatively challenged traditional design concepts for nearly 15 years. These two commissions of serialized works will be the first by each artist in the High’s collection and will have unique ties to the Atlanta community. Bey will create his "Tree Trunk Bench" from a tree recently removed from the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and Remy will repurpose pre-existing drawers donated by individuals in the Atlanta and greater Georgia community.

In a ceremony at the French residence in Beverly Hills, home of Consul General Philippe Larrieu, noted gallerist and advisor Louis Stern was presented with France's highest decoration, the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur ("Knight of the Legion of Honor"). Created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, it is awarded for gallantry in military action or civilian life for work that enhances the reputation of France through scholarship, arts, sciences and politics.

Japanese Guru Shu Uemura Dies
World-renowned Japanese make-up artist and cosmetics guru, Shu Uemura, died December 29 of acute pneumonia at the age of 79. He became famous working as a makeup assistant on the Japanese shoot of the 1957 Universal comedy "Joe Butterfly". Then, he worked with Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Frank Sinatra and Edward G. Robinson. Uemura's famed eyelash curler was mentioned in the more recent film "The Devil Wears Prada."

Bernie Craig, Pinellas County Market President for Bank of America, today presented a US$1 million donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support expansion and redevelopment at The Arts Center. Craig made the presentation at a reception celebrating The Arts Center's plans to break ground on their new facility in September 2008.
