WCMA Receives Grant From The Terra Foundation For American Art
The Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) has been awarded a grant of $400,000 from the Terra Foundation for American Art to help implement the exhibition "Prendergast in Italy." The exhibition, organized by WCMA in partnership with the Terra Foundation, will open in the summer of 2009 and travel to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. The grant is the largest the museum has ever received for an exhibition.

Rare Chinese Ming Dynasty Dish For Sale At Bonhams
A rare large blue and white 'melon' dish from the Yongle Emperor period in China, (reigned 1403–1424) is for sale at Bonhams next Chinese sale on 6 November in New Bond Street. This elegant blue and white dish (43cm – 16in diameter), decorated with a flowering melon plant, is estimated to attract bids in the region of £20,000 to £30,000.

HKIAAF Reaffirms Hong Kong As Centre Of Art Business In Asia
The Hong Kong International Arts and Antiques Fair (HKIAAF), a four-day premier art exposition staged at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, came to a successful conclusion on 7 October, 2008. Attended by almost 18,000 visitors from all over the world, HKIAAF 08 showcased some 2,000 superb works of art, worth a total of over HK$300 million, exhibited by over 70 leading Asian, European and American galleries. This was Hong Kong’s first art fair in more than a decade where masterpieces spanning 5,000 years from Neolithic ceramics through to cutting-edge contemporary art, were on display.

Akron Art Museum To Receive Major Donation Of Vogel Works
The Akron Art Museum has been selected to receive a gift of fifty works of art from New York collectors Dorothy and Herbert Vogel, with the help of the National Gallery of Art, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The gifts are part of a national gifts program entitled The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Fifty States.

$4.8 Million Paul R. Jones Art Collection Donated To UA
One of the top 100 art collectors in the United States, Paul R. Jones of Atlanta, has donated his 1,700-piece art collection valued at $4.8 million to The University of Alabama. The Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art includes one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of 20th century African American art in the world, amassed over decades by Jones, who has been described by Art & Antiques magazine as "one of the top art collectors in the country."

Accordia Wins The RIBA Stirling Prize 2008
Accordia in Cambridge designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Alison Brooks Architectsv, and Macreanor Lavington has won the 13th RIBA Stirling Prize in association with The Architects' Journal. The presentation of the UK's premier architectural award took place at a glittering award ceremony this evening (Saturday 11 October) at the Arena and Convention Centre, Liverpool, and was televised live on Channel 4 at 9pm.

Maine Center for Creativity Announces Winner of Art All Around Competition
The Maine Center for Creativity (MCC), a Mainebased nonprofit dedicated to promoting the growth of the arts and creative industries in Maine, has announced the winner of its Art All Around international design competition. Jaime Gili, a Venezuela-born artist living in London, will receive the $20,000 prize and see his designs transform the sides of eight tanks and the tops of an additional eight tanks at the Sprague Energy tank farm in South Portland.

Carnegie Museum Of Art Creates New Curatorial Department
Carnegie Museum of Art announced the creation of a new curatorial department of photography and has appointed its first head, Linda Benedict-Jones. Benedict-Jones has been the executive director of Silver Eye Center for Photography on Pittsburgh’s south side since 1999 and will assume her position at Carnegie Museum of Art on December 15, 2008.
