Erika Diettes: Drifting Away
This is the second serial project by Erika Diettes, also set in a human drama: this time she alludes to the victims of the Colombia armed conflict. In the previous set, produced in 2005, her lens had focused on the survivors of the WWII holocaust. She picked out 29 individuals and portrayed them with their faces, hands or arms in the foreground , and obtained notes from them in their own handwriting. The proposal is testimony, memory, history and the power of the image as resources which are interwoven to for, a special view of a very moving event. The faces look out at us as we see them and think about them. This dialectic reflects the entire intention and judgment which is part of the whole proposal. These survivors of the Nazi concentration camps all migrated to Colombia and refashioned their lives here. The artist has mounted her itinerant exhibition with different scenarios that are still in circulation and accompanies it with a book. She has given her research, and the final result, the name Silencios.

Costel Iarca Exhibition At The MacNider Art Museum
Since the days of Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and the modernists, finding an innovative artist is rare. Chicago artist Costel Iarca developed a unique application technique that makes his paintings three-dimensional. This patented method gives his abstract compositions depth and definition. He uses latex caulk and acrylic paint applied in layers to create texture. His signature style consists of cylindrical interwoven forms in waves and shapes. Iarca has a solo exhibition at the MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, Iowa, from November 20 to February 1.

Marilyn Manson's Paintings At 101 Exhibit During Art Basel Miami Beach
Multi-talented artist Marilyn Manson, legendary for the cult status of his music career and persona, has simultaneously been creating a large and remarkable body of painting over the past two decades that will be revealed for the first time in the U.S. this December during Art Basel Miami. Just as Manson's lyrics are provocative, driving the expressive form of music to its limits, the artist's paintings, though aesthetically pleasing, play with the grotesque and confront the viewer with the dark side of the American Dream – its obsessions and pitfalls. This exhibition of more than twenty paintings is presented by the Cologne-based Galerie Brigitte Schenk in cooperation with 101 Exhibit, a dynamic new art space in Miami's design district. The show will remain on view through February 2009.
